FIFA World Cup Qatar: Scammers exploit the global user interest, FIFA fans at risk!


22nd FIFA World Cup taken place at Qatar from November 20 to December 18 and nearly one billion people expected to watch this game. Cybercriminals never want to let this opportunity slip so we can see high number of credit card fraud, DDOS attack, APT campaign, Phishing, Identity theft by scammers and other cybercriminal during the event.


Cloudsek and Group-IB bot investigated this case and presented report on how scammers and other cybercriminal using this chance to get Financial gain from the gigantic fan base.


Group-IB Digital Risk Protection team detected around 16000 scam domain and dozens of fake social media accounts, advertisements and mobile application.


During the research Group-IB team found scammers using various tactics to steal personal information and financial gain with many Fake merchandise websites,  Fake Ticketing websites, Fake “Find work at the World Cup”, Fake Survey Websites.


CloudSEK found Cybercriminal  using tactics like offering flights and Hotal booking services, Selling fake Hayya Cards, Forged Hayya Cards, Fake Crypto Token and Coins, Phishing and ticket sale scam, Apart from this CloudSEK noticed many DDOS attack on social media where cybercriminal shared proof of work .
